Suicide blast in Saudi City of Medina

A suicide bomber launched an attack Monday in the Saudi Arabian city of Medina, close to the Prophet's Mosque, one of Islam's holiest sites, killing four people and wounding another, according to an official with knowledge of the event, foreign media reported. This is the third attack in the country in the last 24 hours. The bomber detonated his device as security officers were breaking their Ramadan fast, al-Arabiya TV said. Footage on the TV network showed a blazing vehicle. There are no details of casualties and no official comment. The mosque is the burial place of the Prophet Muhammad and Medina the second-holiest city in Islam after Mecca.

Nearly 120 killed in Baghdad bombs

A suicide truck bomb ripped through a busy shopping district in Baghdad over the weekend, killing more than 100 in what was the deadliest single attack in the war-weary country in years. The brazen Saturday night attack in the heart of the packed Karrada neighborhood killed at least 125 people, including 25 children and 20 women. Families had been gathering hours after they broke the fast for the holy Muslim month of Ramadan and prepared for Eid al-Fitr -- the day that marks the end of the holiday this week. As people congregated, shopped and watched soccer matches, the bomb-laden truck plowed into a building housing a coffee shop, stores and a gym. Firefighters rescued wounded and trapped people in adjacent buildings.

China builds world's largest radio telescope

China has hoisted the final piece into position on what will be the world’s largest radio telescope, which it will use to explore space and help in the hunt for extraterrestrial life. The Five Hundred Metre Aperture Spherical Telescope, or Fast, is the size of 30 football fields and has been cut out of a mountain in the south-western province of Guizhou.

28 dead after explosions at Turkey's largest airport

At least 28 people have been killed and 60 wounded in a terror attack on Istanbul Ataturk Airport in Turkey, Istanbul Gov. Vasip Sahin said early Wednesday. Three bombers were also killed, the governor said. Another report, from semi-official news agency Anadolu, said six of the wounded are in critical condition. 35 Killed in Bus Fire in Central China

At least 35 people were killed and 21 other injured when a tourist bus burst into flame after crashing into road guardrails in Central China's Hunan Province on Sunday morning, according to reports. The accident happened at about 10:20 when the bus carrying 56 people crashed into the guardrails at a Yizhang section of the Yizhang (Hunan) - Fengtouling (Guangdong) expressway. The oil leak after crashing is blamed for the fire, according to local authorities. The bus driver has been put under custody and 21 injured people have been sent to hospitals, and rescuers are still searching the charred frame of the bus.

Britain Votes to Leave European Union

Prime Minister David Cameron is to step down by October after the UK voted to leave the European Union. Mr Cameron made the announcement in a statement outside Downing Street after the final result was announced. He said he would attempt to "steady the ship" over the coming weeks and months but that "fresh leadership" was needed. The PM had urged the country to vote Remain, warning of economic and security consequences of an exit, but the UK voted to Leave by 52% to 48%.England and Wales voted strongly for Brexit, while London, Scotland and Northern Ireland backed staying in.
