Damages to Sigiriya paintings
One of the Sigiriya frescoes has been damaged allegedly by officers of the Central Cultural Fund, during an inspection. In inspection in question, square areas, one metre apart are marked, using thread, in order to inspect the area of the image in each square. However, the officers had used cellotape on the paintings, resulting in a portion of one inch of the painting coming off. News1st inquired from the Minister of Education, Akila Viraj Kariyawasam regarding such careless acts relating to the Sigiriya frescoes, which belong to the Anuradhapura era and is deemed a world heritage site.
