Protests against removal of Wattala jogging track
The jogging track at Kalu-Ela in Wattala, which was constructed at a cost of Rs. 8 million, was destroyed by backhoes on the night of Saturday March 26. The stones along the jogging track had been removed at around 10 p.m. last night. The jogging track which is about one kilometre in length, was constructed by the previous regime. Many people used the track for their daily exercises. Minister of Tourism Development and Christian Affairs John Amaratunga said: ”There is a village behind this and this road will be constructed to travel to that village. We have already received permission and the permit letter was handed over to the police. ”
