Two knife-wielding shop robbers high on drink and drugs were dramatically fought off by a PhD student who went at them with a baseball bat while working an evening shift to pay his tuition fees. Lushan Weerasooriya, 28, defied instructions from his boss - who had told him when he started to hand over money if there was a robbery - and forced his attackers to flee empty-handed. Gregory Booth, 37, and his 32-year-old brother Matthew were caught on CCTV lunging at the Sri Lankan national, who bravely picked up a baseball bat kept behind the counter to ward them off.
