Kotmale Mahaweli Maha Seya unveiled
The 289-feet high Kotmale Mahaweli Maha Seya, which is second in size only to the Ruwanweli Maha Seya has been declared open. The ceremonial unveiling of the Kotmale Mahaweli Maha Seya took place under the auspicies of President Maithripala Sirisena and the Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe this evening. The Mahaweli Maha Seya in Kotmale was inaugurated under the patronage of the former President JR Jayawardhana, and former Minister of Land Development and Mahaweli Development Gamini Dissanayake in 1983. The 289-feet high pagoda with a 628-feet diameter provides accesses about 4,000 devotees for one occasion.
