Fire at Eppawala phosphate factory

A section of a building at the Eppawala Phosphate factory premises was destroyed by a fire, Police Media Unit sources said. The fire which erupted at the factory last morning destroyed the building which housed the factory’s supply, accounting and documenting divisions. The fire had been brought under control by the police with the assistance of the Fire Brigade and area residents. No casualties were reported and damage caused by the fire is still to be estimated. Eppawela Police are conducting further investigations while the cause is yet to be ascertained.
