Palitha, Prasanna suspended for one week

Tevarapperuma says he bows and accepts the penalty; Prasanna Ranaweera says he would not keep mum Parliament yesterday temporarily suspended MP Prasanna Ranaweera and Deputy Minister Palitha Thewarapperuma from Parliament for one week. The two resolutions pertaining to the suspension were moved by Leader of the House Minister Lakshman Kiriella on the recommendation of Speaker Karu Jayasuriya as per the provisions of the Standing Orders. Speaker Jayasuriya making an announcement said the decision to take disciplinary actions was agreed at the Party Leaders’ Meeting held yesterday. The Speaker said the suspension would be effective from today.
