IGP NK Illangakoon retires
Inspector General of Police N.K. Illangakoon retired from his post on Monday, April 11. Illangakoon served for five years as the 33rd IGP of Sri Lanka. He joined the Police Department in 1980 as a sub-inspector and was a founding member of the Police Special Task Force. He was actively involved in several war-time operations and held many ranks in the department, serving with distinction in many parts of the country. Since being appointed Inspector General of Police on June 29, 2011, Illangakoon embarked on a mission to bring about a police service that is “closer to the people.”
