Sarath Fonseka promoted Field Marshal

Sarath Fonseka bestowed with Field Marshal title Former Army Commander Sarath Fonseka, who led the Army to militarily crush the LTTE in May, 2009, was promoted to the rank of Field Marshal yesterday, by President Maithripala Sirisena. The rank of Field Marshal is equivalent to the position of a cabinet minister and is the highest rank in the armed forces of the world. A Field Marshal is considered to be an active member in the military service throughout his life.
