CCTV footage on Sampath bank robbery in Colombo 7

An unidentified gunman wearing a helmet and a jacket yesterday morning entered a private bank branch at Dharmapala Mawatha, Colombo 02, after assaulting the security guard at the entrance and got away with Rs. 5 mn at gun point. He had arrived on a motorcycle around 8.00 a.m, police said. At the time of the robbery there had been only about 10 bank workers present, the police said. The police said the recordings on the CCTV camera would help trace the robber. The police have recorded statements from the bank staff and the security personnel. The money the robber made off with had been the amount kept for transactions at the counters, police said.
