PS Chairman, 17 others convicted for murder

Avissawella High Court this morning sentenced to death the former Chairman of the Deraniyagala Pradeshiya Sabha and 17 others, for the murder of the manager of the Nooriyawatte Estate. The manager, Nihal Perera, was abducted and hacked to death on July 5, 2013 morning by a group of men who had arrived in a SUV. The former Chairman of the Deraniyagala Pradeshiya Sabha A. Chinthaka, otherwise known as ‘Atha Kota’ and several of his cohorts were arrested as suspects in the murder.
