Lankan arrested with Rs. 66.7 Mn in foreign currency

A Sri Lankan who attempted to smuggle Rs. 66.7 million in foreign currencies was arrested at the Mattala Mahinda Rajapaksa International Airport (MRIA) by Customs officials this morning. The 35 year old from Weligama, Matara was to fly to Dubai last morning when officials checked his baggage to find the currencies at the bottom of his hand luggage. Officials found US$ 184,750, Euro 183, 400, British Pounds 16,700 and currencies from Saudi Arabia, Oman, UAE, Denmark, and Switzerland
